Ewart died peacefully in hospital at the beginning of September 2020. A kind and quietly brilliant man, he was much loved by family, friends and many others who had the good fortune to know him.

We would love you to share your memories and thoughts of Ewart here.

Ewart supported Shelter for many years. If you would like to make a donation in his memory you can do so here.

There are many people we would like to celebrate Ewart’s life with at a funeral. Sadly, because of coronavirus, we're unable to do so. Instead, we will hold a small, private cremation for close family.

A long wet weekend in May 1978 on the Llangollen canal with Ewart, Denise, Carol, Jill and Pete. The highlight was when Ewart was pushing the longboat off the bank...the barge pole slipped and Ewart ended head first in the muddy canal!

Thank you Denise for letting me know about this page. It was a privilege to know and support you both for the last 3 years. Ewart was such a gentleman, and everyone has such precious memories of him. Not only that but your stoic support and fight to get the support and care that he needed, whilst not compromising his views, beliefs and interests. I have such fond memories of times spent with Ewart- on walks in Fife, round the dinner table in Jesmond, and even while holidaying during a murder investigation on Sanday, Orkney. He was always thoughtful and insightful whether discussing politics, Tchaikovsky or dough. And he was great fun to be with. I will miss Ewart very much but his quiet passion for justice and rights, including the importance of shelter as not only a secure roof over the head but a place to share good food, conversation, love and friendship, stays with me. With love to Denise, Peter, Alice and all the family.
